2019 Camel City Elite Offering Flat Track “World Record” Bonuses Goal Is to Become the Fastest 200m Flat Track in the World
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – December 20, 2018 – Earlier this week, JDL Fast Track made its initial press releases to announce the professional men’s and women’s fields for the 2019 Camel City Elite Races. Those races feature Olympians like Matthew Centrowitz, Paul Chelimo, Nick Willis and Ajee’ Wilson.
In addition to offering the biggest first and second place prizes of any non-national championship indoor track meet in the United States, JDL Fast Track is now offering bonuses to the winner of each race if they can break the unofficial flat track “world record.”
After conferring with some track statisticians, we have found the following as the fastest times run on a 200m flat track:
Men’s 800m – 1:46.28 – Mark Everett – Gainesville, FL – 1990 Men’s Mile – 3:52.30 – Frank O’Mara – Fayetteville, AR - 1986 Men’s 3000m – 7:42.29 – Bob Kennedy – Fairfax, VA – 1995 Women’s 800m – 1:59.41 – Maria Mutola – Fairfax, VA – 1996 Women’s Mile – 4:22.66 – Shannon Rowbury – JDL Fast Track – 2015 Women’s 3000m – 8:55.88 – Kim Smith – Syracuse, NY - 2004
Our goal is to own all six of these marks, which we know will take time. As a result, JDL Fast Track is offering a $1000 bonus to the winner of each Camel City Elite race if they can break the flat track “world record.” If they do that, they would take home a total of $8000, as they would receive the $6000 first place prize and we are also offering $1000 time bonuses for other marks in each race that would also be hit if they were to break these “records.”
“We already own one of the six, and with the fields we have assembled, it’s not far-fetched to see us breaking some or all of the remaining ones we don’t have,” said Craig Longhurst, JDL Fast Track’s facility director and elite athlete coordinator. “We know it will take time to try to get these, but we also hope it will show the athletes our commitment to running Camel City Elite as a high-performance event.”
Admission for the event is $10 for adults, $5 for students and kids 12 and under are FREE. The Camel City Elite Races will begin at 2 pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019.
Camel City Elite will be streamed live online at www.jdlfasttrack.com as part of the RunnerSpace +Plus subscription package which starts at $12 a month.
